Education gaffe

I’m just a mom who got into politics when my children were held hostage from school by a government that refused to arbitrate.

I’m just a mom who started to dig into politics when my children were held hostage from school by a government that refused to arbitrate with teachers and kept all of B.C.’s children out of public school. Big mistake, government. You have awoken many like me to the fact that all is not right, in fact, downright dirty in the direction that our province is headed.

Our public school system has been eroded over the past 10 years to the bare bones. Many families are leaving the starved public system to private-public funded schools (because taxpaying citizens fund private schools to the tune of 35-50 per cent). This further erodes an education system that is supposed to be a free, world-class, liberal education.

I have always believed Canada’s education system to be democratic in that education is the great equalizer. Every child in B.C. should have the right to a world-class, liberal education. Spreading this message is the responsibility we have to all of our children; we need to educate a generation who can be innovators and thinkers who can invent a sustainable zero waste society who divests from our dependence on fossil fuels.

More digging and I realized that most Canadians are asleep to what is going on and believe the spin our government spins. Last week’s budget is just one more example of our government’s disrespect for British Columbians. Let them eat apples.
