EPCOR water outrage

I agree with recent letters to the editor written by Len Mustard and Richard Bothwell concerning EPCOR’s outrageous water rate increases.

I agree with recent letters to the editor written by Len Mustard and Richard Bothwell concerning EPCOR’s outrageous water rate increases (38 per cent over three years).

The Comptroller General of Water Rights is responsible for taking into account the interests of the public when the water utility is owned by a corporation with a monopoly. It seems clear to me that he is not doing his job.

I quote Bothwell’s letter: “Why would someone who is supposed to represent the citizens in such matters rubber stamp such exorbitant rate increases? I cannot think of anything else that has seen such inflation to date.”

There was a bit of back and forth but it appears that the comptroller essentially gave EPCOR what they were asking for.

You can reach Comptroller Glen Davidson via his secretary (Rick.Couroux@gov.bc.ca) or by calling 250-387-6949.  The minister responsible and the local MLA are: Environment Minister Hon. Mary Polak (ENV.minister@gov.bc.ca or 250-387-1187) and Hon. Michelle Stilwell (michelle.stilwell.mla@leg.bc.ca or 250-248-2625).  I will be contacting these people.
