Great health care

I was playing golf at Morningstar Golf Course when my heart revved up and I knew something was wrong.

This bouquet is to the Urgent Care team at the Oceanside Health Centre. I was playing golf at Morningstar Golf Course when my heart revved up, felt a little dizzy, had difficulty pushing my golf cart and I knew something was wrong.

My wife Karen drove me directly to the health centre. Mentioning it was a heart issue, I was immediately surrounded by a great team of professionals. With my heart racing at double time, the doctors diagnosed me with having atrial flutter. The electrical charge that goes around your heart was in simple terms having a mind of it’s own and detouring, they took care of that with an electrical shock and my heart rate pulse went back to normal.

As they weren’t satisfied with my blood pressure levels, they transferred me by ambulance to Nanaimo for further testing and observation and I’m happy to say that everything is OK.

The point I would like to make is that we are extremely lucky to have the Urgent Care Centre and its great staff here in Parksville. For all you complainers about your wait times, I was reminded by the staff that since closing of the walk-in clinic, some still seem to think this is the replacement. Wrong, this is for urgent care and if you are not urgent you may have some waiting time.

So for those of you that had a longer wait time last Wednesday, my apologies. Special thank yous to Murray (nurse) and doctors Flesher and Halvorson.
