I would like to be writing that this year was less difficult and less tumultuous than last year, but unfortunately that wasn’t our fate.

With the ongoing and changing COVID-19 restrictions, SOS has been continuously modifying our programs in order to continue meeting needs in our community, and to say it’s been difficult would be an understatement.

What has kept us steadfast in our work is our commitment to our community, and the incredible and heart-warming show of support residents consistently show us. It has been alarming to hear what many of our residents have been facing this year, but thanks to your support we’re able to give our clients and program participants a hand up, a smile, and some reassurance.

Christmas can be a difficult time for residents, compounded with the instability and negative repercussions of COVID-19, many families and individuals are feeling dispirited.

But when they come to access our SOS Christmas program, something special happens. One resident told us recently that it turned Christmas around for her and her family. She said the volunteers brightened their spirits and let them know they are not alone. They left here with gifts for their children, and a grocery store gift card for their Christmas meal. And they left here with hope.

That is the essence of community. That’s what we’re here for. No one knows what the future will hold for any of us, but to know that there’s a place where you can get help if you need it is something we can all be thankful for this Christmas. We want to thank you for helping make this possible.

From all of us at SOS, we wish you safe and happy holidays, and all the best for the year ahead.

Susanna Newton

SOS Executive Director
