Re: ICF wants to know if B.C. government supports railway plan (The NEWS, Nov. 23).

There are alternatives to rail service on the Island corridor. I was disappointed that no mention was made of the group called Friends of Rails to Trails Vancouver Island, who are advocating a less costly and a more beneficial utilization of the corridor for all Island residents by removing the rails north of Langford and replacing them with a multi-use, non-motorized trail similar to the Galloping Goose trail in Victoria.

Their solution eliminates the high cost of bringing the rail back into operation and also a large annual operating subsidy that would be required to provide adequate rail service. I encourage all your readers to visit their website at www.fortvi.ca to see what they are all about.
