I am applauding Qualicum Beach Coun. Teunis Westbroek on his foresight to address the proposed changes that would give the provincial government the authority to approve development permits that are the jurisdiction of local governments at the present time.
In other words, should a local government not want a development the developer can have approval through the provincial government.
The proposed changes under law, can impact the growth strategy and planning of communities.
It is my thought that what will happen is municipal government will find themselves spending time and money supporting their position and lobbying the provincial powers to listen. The present situation is such that attempting to speak to or engage the provincial government is nearly impossible.
I am surprised that other governments have not spoken about this situation and there has been little heard through the media.
