Need for photo identification a concern

An attack on democracy, says writer

I’m just back from voting. When did photo ID become mandatory for all Canadians?

My wife and I were at the polling station with voting cards and were asked to produce photo ID before we could vote.

We are urged ad nauseum to just vote before the election, but it is clear that the staff had been told to deny the vote to those who for whatever reason do not have a photo ID on their person.

I was permitted to vouch for my wife and she exercised what is now becoming a privilege instead of the right it once was.

It’s another attack on democracy — and perpetrated by Elections Canada!
