Qualicum Beach watering in a drought

Responding to a letter about power washing in plaza square prompted me to write about a similar sight.

Responding to a letter to the editor from Ralph Causton about power washing in plaza square prompted me to write about the sight that greeted us while on an early morning walk in Qualicum Beach in late June.

Arriving at Jones and Second Avenue we saw a town employee power washing the sidewalk and when I asked him why he was power washing in this drought situation, he just shrugged. As we continued our walk down Second, the truck and the power washing went on.

It’s one thing to water the flower baskets and troughs, but extremely shortsighted to waste thousands of litres of water on sidewalks and I question why anyone would authorize it. I did not get a call back from the town when I left a voice mail inquiry the next day.
