Qualicum Beach’s ‘unlimited water’

The “I’m OK” attitude in the past of the Qualicum Beach mayor and now the director of engineering is becoming tiresome to say the least.

In regards to Qualicum Beach’s supposedly unlimited supply of water from town wells in the Little Qualicum River aquifer and the record low flows in the river.

The “I’m OK” attitude in the past of the Qualicum Beach mayor and now the director of engineering (The NEWS, July 2) is becoming tiresome to say the least. The meaningless water restrictions of only watering 14 hours a day is a farce.

Qualicum Beach does share this water with other wells in the neighbourhood (who actually have meaningful water restrictions) and by their unlimited use, endanger those other wells with salt intrusion from the ocean when the fresh water table is lowered. This will permanently damage those wells.

When those wells are destroyed will Qualicum supply them with water? I doubt it.
