Sidewalks are safe paths for all

We just received a letter regarding the proposed removal of the sidewalks on Saturna Drive and I have some very serious concerns.

As I and many are aware, when Saturna Drive was developed by Pacific Beach Investments they were told by the town that they must put the sidewalks and trees in as an act of good faith. The idea, at the time, was that there were young families that needed a safe place to walk on our street.

Has this changed?

I am one of several young families on Saturna Drive and am appalled that the solution to the lifting side walk (that I believe is due to the root system of the trees the Town of Qualicum Beach selected to plant) is to jeopardize the safety of my children and the other children in our neighbourhood.

Yes we live in one of the most beautiful towns and for that, I am thankful; however, it is no secret this town is currently struggling to support a place for young families in our community. This most recent proposal is again showing a lack of respect for the young families in Qualicum Beach and I am disgusted by it.

Equally important, the removal of our sidewalks takes away a safe path of travel for our elderly neighbours. This reduces the value of the our property that we paid a premium for because of specific features such as sidewalks.

I oppose this proposal and as you do with all developments, I ask to please see your plans before you move further with this project.

As it is the holiday season, I also ask that you please shelf this proposal until we, the people on Saturna, have a chance to enjoy the holidays with the young children we are raising and can refocus in January.
