Thalassa hopes to raise $25 grand

Third annual fundraiser for Tour de Rock on Aug. 27

Thalassa Restaurant has big plans for their third annual Tour de Rock all-day fundraiser on August 27.

Inspired by the long battle with cancer of Georgios Bourodemos’, a nephew of one of the organizers, they have set the ambitious goal of raising $25,000 in a single day.

After being diagnosed with leukemia at the age of two, Bourodemos has been in remission for several years and, now 12, he’s a dedicated hockey goalie and football player with dreams of being a sports star.

The young man started raising money a few years ago, raising more than $5,000 to shave his head and last year surpassed his goal of $10,000 with Thalassa Restaurant.

They are offering a whole day of activities to reach this year’s goal starting with a breakfast buffet and Ocean Idlers Car Show in the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Course parking lot starting at 7 a.m.

The $10 breakfast runs till 11 a.m., but the car show will just be picking up at that time running from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Breakfast is followed by a $15 beer and burger lunch, with a wine or beer included, leading up to the Nine Hole Golf Tournament with a $25,000 hole-in-one prize sponsored by Re/Max Anchor Realty. The golf tournament is $45, including lunch, with a shot gun start at 1:30 p.m., for the golfing, not the eating. For the evening, the fundraising festivities shift up the hill to the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre for a deluxe prime rib dinner, variety show, casino and silent auction. Tables of 10 are available for $400, which will include a three course dinner, two bottles of Jackson Triggs Merlot and all the fun of the evening including a $1,200 grand prize.
