On August 18, the BC Cancer Agency’s BC Generations Project wound up its Nanaimo assessment centre after an extraordinarily successful recruitment campaign across the mid-Island.
The BC Generations Project is part of a Canada-wide initiative to learn more about how environment, lifestyle and genes contribute to cancer and other chronic diseases.
Nationally, more than 250,000 Canadians have already volunteered to take part in this initiative, providing information that can be used in hundreds of research studies for decades to come.
We’re pleased to announce that 1,060 area residents stepped forward during our four-week run in Nanaimo, pushing the total number of study members enrolled in the BC Generations Project to more than 25,000.
Thanks to our funders, the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer and the BC Cancer Foundation, and our supporters, LifeLabs, Solutions Staffing and Nanaimo North Town Centre, who helped make our community outreach such a success.
We’re also grateful for all the varied media coverage throughout the region, which prompted many more participants to contact us.
