Parksville Sharks assistant captain Neil Shafi takes a few knocks during the Sharks’ Sunday match with Westshore. Parksville would score late in the game to salvage a 5-5 tie.

A tie doesn’t hurt the Parksville Sharks Bantam C lacrosse team’s chances in the playoffs.

They are already in the playdowns.

Parksville drew even, 5-5, with Westshore at home in Oceanside Place Sunday afternoon, thanks to a late goal by Parker Beaudry (who had a couple of tallies in this game).

Coach Mike Woods said his team, made up of 13 to 14 year-olds, played well and the tie gives them a share of third place in the league.

“We played a good game today,” he said.

The game marked the end of the regular season, with lacrosse playoffs to start soon. Woods could not say when those series begin, as he hadn’t been told yet.

“But our chances are good.”

The game against Westshore saw plenty of end-to-end action, plus some rough stuff, which sent off a Parksville player with an injury in the second period.

The game was also the first in a long time for Paxton Gilmore. She made a return to the arena after recovering from a concussion earlier in the season.
