A small delegation of swimmers from the Ravensong Aquatic Club made a big splash to close out the year in the Winter Break Invitational meet at Cowichan Aquatic Centre.
Will MacDonald, 13, swam personal-best times in all four of his events and teammate Jakob Mbobela, 13, posted a club record in the 100-metre individual medley to share Breakers of the Meet honours. The two, who competed in the 12-over boys division, both earned the right to sign the club’s Golden Kickboard.
Other Ravensong Breakers competing in the meet included Ella Confortin (U-11 girls), Emily Latremouille (12-over girls); Johnathan Howse, Fischer Swanson and Spencer Nardi (U-11 boys); and Luke Hubner (12-over boys).
The next action for the Breakers swim club will be their own club’s Red and Black Meet, Jan. 6 at Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach. The unofficial, fun time trial will offer young swimmers a chance to show their swimming skills while providing some offbeat and non-traditional races, along with lots of relays, club coach Byron Trajan said.
The Breakers’ next official competition is the Vancouver Island Regional Championships, Jan. 13-15 at the Comox Aquatic Centre.
