Four gold medals, and six silver for Hoey

It has been a busy but rewarding month for Parksville’s Makayla Hoey.

A week after helping Zone 6 capture a silver medal in girls basketball at the BC Summer Games, the 13-year-old standout was tearing it up at the BC Junior Development Track and Field Championships.

In the mix in Richmond July 27-29, Hoey turned in personal bests in seven of the nine events she was entered in, and secured gold medals in the 200m hurdles, shot put, long jump and high jump, to go along with silver medals in the 100m, 200m, 300m, 80m hurdles and javelin.

“In the 100m, 300m and 80m hurdles, she only was behind first place by two to six one hundredths of a second,” one proud Oceanside Track and Field coach Laurie Ritchie said after.

“What and amazing end to her track season.”
