Hot Rum in the can

The final Hot Rum Series race is in the books with the close competition showing in the final standings.

The final leg of the Hot Rum Series took place under beautiful conditions. The spring series is set to begin April 13.

The final Hot Rum Series race is in the books with the close competition showing in the final standings.

It was another day of light winds, 0 to 5 knots, for the racing fleet of the Schooner Cove Yacht Club. The race consisted of two upwind and two downwind legs for a total of ten miles. After Five finished first with a six-minute lead followed by Shingebiss and Freewind, only six seconds apart. Calais rounded out the final race, crossing fourth.

This ends the winter race series and the final standings boil down to the six seconds separating Shingebiss and Freewind. That tiny interval gives Shingebiss an overall lead of just one point over Freewind to take first overall.

The competition was so close that Freewind tied with the other two boats for second place. The Spring Series of races begins in three weeks on April 13 with two races scheduled.

Final race results:

vessel         skipper             time

1. After Five    Andrea Boudreau     2:31:18

2. Shingbiss    Neal Berger             2:37:03

3. Freewind    Richard Hudson        2:37:09

4. Calais         Ralph Hunter            2:42:16
