Men and Ladies battle for Salmon Can Trophy

The weather was perfect, the greens were fast and the play was exciting.

The weather was perfect, the greens were fast and the play was exciting.

That was the scene when the  Parksville Lawn Bowling Club held its annual Men’s and Lady’s Club Triples Tournament.

On the lady’s side, first place went to the team of Sandi Mitchell, Bev Beath and Janie Worel.  Second was earned by Praiwan Davis, Doreen Nordentoft and Lennie Jarrett. Third place was skipped by Anita Wood, with Bobbi Cyr and Jean Roberts.

John Scofield, Larry Lirette and David Croot took first in the men’s, with Chris Wood, Gil Simpson and Ed Russell taking second. Mick Banks, Rob Matthews and Jim Patterson took third.

The Salmon Can Trophy, a.k.a. The Battle of the Sexes, was the finale to the weekend event with the top men’s teams playing off against the top women’s.  It was a quick three ender game, with lots of rousing support from the large and enthusiastic crowd. The pompoms were flashing and noisemakers rattled as shots were made and scores counted.  In the end, the men prevailed ...again.

“Oh well there’s always next year,” one disappointed female fan in the crowd said shaking her head in disbelief.
