Nanoose Bay golfer Shelly Stouffer won a singles match against reigning U.S. senior women’s amateur champion Lara Tenant at the PNGA Lamey Cup at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.

Stouffer recently competed at the 15th annual team tournament as a member of Team B.C. that consisted of Jackie Little of Procter, Nonie Marler of Vancouver, Christina Proteau of Port Alberni, John Robertson of Courtenay, Craig Doell of Victoria, Saare Adams of Victoria, Mike Aizawa of Richmond, Norm Bradley of Kelowna, Nasheel Kassam of Vancouver, Mike Kennedy of North Vancouver and Brent Wilson of Cobble Hill.

The singles game against the three-time U.S. amateur champion Tennant was a match Stouffer wanted since she was named to Team B.C. She got her wish, according to B.C. Golf, and ended up winning 4 and 3.

Stouffer, the regining B.C. and Canadian Senior Women’s champion, birdied the first hole and never looked back.

Stouffer led Team B.C. to a third-place finish overall by winning all three of her matches. She teamed with Little, the former Hollies Executive Golf Course owner to win both their four-ball and foursome matches. Defending champions Washington since 2019 won again, followed by Oregon in second place. Idaho finished fourth.

The Lamey Cup is a Ryder Cup-style competition that involved teams representing B.C., Washington, Oregon and Idaho golf associations. It’s the first time it was played after a two-year absence due to COVID-19.
