Oceanside’s Tier 2 U16 Buccaneers field lacrosse team was at home, in tough but the better for it on Sunday, dropping a two game set to the Tier 1 Vic Field Titans, made up primarily of Clermont High School Lacrosse Academy players.
“We were in tough, but they’re not even in the same league as us, they’re a tier above us, so we knew that going in,” Bucs’ co-coach Evan Tuck said after the game.
In Vancouver Island Youth Field Lacrosse the lack of Tier 1 teams at this level — there are only three — means they are grouped with Tier 2 teams during the regular season.
“Our team played well. It gave us a better point of view of what we need to work on as a team,” said Tuck. “We had some pretty good goals, our defence got a good workout, our goalie faced a lot of shots, and we were able to learn a lot.”
“Today was a great learning day for them all.”
The Titans remain undefeated and are the favourite to take the Tier 1 Island title.
The U16 Buccaneers are about halfway though their season and Tuck said things are looking up, from here on they’re playing mostly Tier 2 teams, “so we’re working hard to make the playoffs and hopefully we’ll get into the provincials.”
