The B.C. Seniors Curling championships is Feb. 20-26

Lynne Noble of Qualicum Beach will lead a rink with some serious firepower into the 2017 B.C. Seniors Curling championships Feb. 20-26 in Salmon Arm.

Noble, the 2011 B.C. Senior Women’s champion, will be joined by two-time provincial champion Penny Shantz of Parksville, who slides into the third position for Noble’s team.

“We finally decided to get together,” said Shantz

The two will be joined at the championships by second Colleen Robson of Courtenay and lead Kathy Branch of Comox.

During a four-year stretch from 2011-2014,

Noble and Shantz combined to win three B.C. Senior Women’s championships.

Noble won the 2011 title with a Qualicum & District Curling Club rink that included Lorraine Jeffries, Lorraine Gagnon and Kristen Nickells.

Shantz, a member of the gold medal-winning Canadian team at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, claimed the championship in two of the next three years.

She skipped the winning 2012 senior women’s team while representing Nanaimo Curling Centre, then returned to the top of the podium in the 2014 championship as skip of her Parksville Curling Club-based rink.
