The annual Mamas versus Papas Challenge Cup slo-pitch game that featured the senior women and senior men produced another epic battle that was settled in the last inning.
The players ranged in the ages between 60 and 85 but you would never know it with the show they put on, said organizer Randy White.
The ladies had won four of the five Challenge Cup games and were determined to retain their hold on the trophy. But the men were determined to put a stop to the senior women’s reign and went on to finally lift the Challenge Cup when they earned the winning run in the seventh inning to score a narrow 25-24 win.

“This was the very best ball game I’ve seen in years” said White. “A total of 49 runs were scored with the Guys finally pulling it out in the bottom of the seventh with a score of 25-24. The score should not fool you. There were very few errors but the hitting was awesome.”
This was the fifth year for the classic which is played in Parksville Community Park diamond near the lacrosse box. Plans are already being talked about for next year’s event.
