Close to 100 spectators from all over the Island turned out at the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club Sunday for the Sea Soil Classic finals.

One of the premier men’s triples tournaments in B.C., this year’s Sea Soil, the seventh annual, featured 17 teams in A and B events.

In the end, it was the Vancouver team of German Santana, Craig Wilson and Mel Eccles getting past Parksville’s Stu MacNaughton, Jim Muir and Rick Dolley 16-7 in the challenging A event final.

In the all-Parksville B event final, it was skip Bill Mill with Peter Zboyovsky and Gil Simpson over Mick Banks (skip), Geoff Holland and Jack Lawrence 13-9.

Defending A event champion Gary Robinson, who skipped his team to top spot two of the previous three years, saw his run end, but the longtime PLBC stalwart and the man who started (and still organizes) the Classic, was in great spirits Sunday as he watched from the grassy knoll in the sun.

Play began Friday; each team played five games in their division with winners moving on to the semi-finals Sunday morning, followed by the finals that afternoon.

The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club, said Carol Bucyk, “would like to thank all  participant teams and the wonderful businesses who donated products and services for the club’s fundraising activities for the Oceanside Hospice Society. They would especially like to thank the great folks at Sea Soil for their commitment to this tournament.”
