Spring Soccer is right around the corner with the fall season now in the books.

The recent Oceanside Youth Soccer Society (OYSS) year-end festivities for U11 and U12 boys and girls was a success, despite the terrible weather they played through.

The festival was sponsored by Save-On-Foods and many thanks went to them as well as Central Builders for moving the goals from the Qualicum Beach fields to Parksville Community Park.

“Save-On-Foods was a big help for the league this year, so we’re very thankful for everything they did for us,” said long time Oceanside Soccer Administrator Mike Cochrane. “We owe a big thanks to the City of Parksville too for having us continue on the field down at the Community Park and up at Springwood as well.”

All in all, there were 30 teams taking part over the weekend, with teams from Oceanside, Ladysmith, Nanaimo and Gabriola Island.

Saturday, March 8 saw 11 of the U11 boys and six of the U11 girls teams playing in the monsoons in Springwood Park. In Parksville Community Park there were eight U12 boys and five U12 girls teams taking to the pitch.

Sunday brought some better weather as the sun came out for a great finish to their season. Each team got to play two games on Saturday and at least one more Sunday, with some teams getting two games on Sunday.

Registration for Spring Soccer is open until April 15. The Pony league runs April 5 to June 14, with a Mini World Cup break. U11 to U13 run April 12 to June 14, also including a Mini World Cup.

The U14 to U18 will have co-ed teams that will be entered into the Nanaimo Spring League. Their season will be dependent on registration numbers.
