Every January, the Vancouver Island Society for Adaptive Snowsports (VISAS) invites those new to adaptive snowsports to join the four-day Herb Bradley Festival (HBF).
This season at Mount Washington, the HBF will be held from Monday, Jan. 8 to Thursday, Jan. 11.
There’s still time to sign up to learn an adaptive snowsport. This on-the-snow instruction, with over 85 volunteer CADS-certified (Canadian Adaptive Snowsports) alpine and snowboard instructors, and trained Nordic instructors, is a one-of-a-kind winter mountain experience.
As part of the festival, VISAS provides participants with lift/trails passes and ski/snowboarding equipment (courtesy of Mount Washington). And specialized adaptive equipment is available to suit your disability.
“It’s a great opportunity to have four consecutive days with our VISAS instructors, connect with other new students, and share in the fun on the snow,” said May Lortie, 2024 HBF co-ordinator.
The festival is limited to 30 alpine and snowboard students, and four Nordic students, with preference given to applicants with no experience with adaptive snowsports. Applications will be accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis, according to instructor capacity.
“The Herb Bradley Festival is one of our most popular and longest-running programs we offer each season,” said VISAS president, Sebastien Braconnier. “It always a thrill to see the smiling faces of our adaptive students when they take to the snow.”
