With the COVID-19 situation having a massive impact on local businesses, non-profit groups and charities will find it harder to raise funds to maintain their services and operations.
A restaurant in Whiskey Creek, Bigfoot Burgers, is still doing its best to help out. It had to close its doors when COVID-19 broke out and they’ve just recently re-opened, offering only takeout and partial delivery services. But despite not generating income while they were closed, owner Ted Spence still plans to donate 10 per cent of general sales for a week to the Arrowsmith Search and Rescue Society, a non-profit group that plays a key role in helping citizens safe and during emergency situations. It will be the second year this restaurant is doing this for the ASAR.

Spence said since starting his businsess in Whiskey Creek, he’s forged a good relationship with the members of ASAR who are also regulars at Bigfoot Burgers. He decided to do something for them, as he values the work ASAR does in the community.
Stuart Kirk, a member of ASAR, expressed gratitude.
“We are non-profit society and rely on government grants which we do receive,” Kirk explain. “But for most of our operational and training costs, it’s really the community and its donations. So we appreciated what Bigfoot Burgers is doing for us.”
The fundraiser starts this week. Bigfoot Burgers is located at 3680 Alberni Highway.
