UPDATE: Community rallies behind 14th Annual Tigh-Na-Mara Toy Drive

Event helps Society of Organized Services assist PQB families

The weather was cold outside but inside Parksville’s Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Resort, there were lots of warm hearts.

Community members endured the snow and slushy conditions to rally behind the 14th Annual Tigh-Na-Mara Toy Drive on Nov. 30.

People came in bearing a variety of unwrapped toys while some opened their wallets to make cash donations, offered gift cards as well non-perishable food items. All the generous donors were treated to a tasty buffet breakfast.

The toy drive supports the Society of Organized Services (District 69) Caring for the Community at Christmas program. It is a way of making the holiday season happy and bright as they will have a special gift this Christmas and families receiving grocery gift cards.

Organizers said it was a successful Toy Drive as they’ve collected more donations this year compared to the last two years. The event generated $15,462.56 in cash and cheque donations and gift cards amounting to $4,105 for a total of $19,567.56. There were 1,416 toys and 25 bicycles collected.
