The District 69 Backpack Program aims to fundraise for a good cause as the Christmas season gets underway.

This year it is taking part in a Purdys Chocolatier fundraiser to help the program continue its work in the community and ensure children and families do not go hungry during the weekends.

The program prevents hunger by sending students home every Thursday with backpacks full of healthy food staples, according to the program’s founder and co-ordinator, Virginia Worcester.

“We are also fundraising for the ‘All They Want for Christmas’ program,” read a news release by the District 69 Backpack Program. “That purchases a Christmas gift of choice for every child, a pair of new jammies and a Christmas dinner food hamper including a turkey and two weeks food to get the families through the holidays.”

For some children, this program provides them with their only Christmas gift, according to the release.

“By purchasing @purdyschocolatier chocolates through this fundraiser, not only will you be helping an incredibly important organization, you will also be receiving the gift of top quality treats!” the release read. “Please consider scanning our QR code to support this fundraiser or follow the link in our story.”
