The Knights of Columbus did their chivalrous deed in Parksville last week.

The KoC Ascension Council #7991 doled out nearly $9,000 to eight charitable groups and organizations in the Parksville Qualicum Beach Area.

The groups that benefited from the Knights’ generosity were the Society of Organized Services, Oceanside Stroke Recovery Society, Arrowsmith Justice Society, Salvation Army, Oceanside Hospice Society, Inclusion Parksville Society, Manna Homeless Society, and Oceanside RCMP Dare Program.

Grand Knight Rum Hykaway, Deputy Grand Knight Bennis Belliveau and former Grand Knight Peter Horsfield presented the checks to each group representatives at a presentation that was held at the Parksville Civic Centre last Thursday.

The Knights donate around $40,000 annually to approximately 20 different charitable groups and societies and also some funds to the Church of the Ascension, $1,000 bursaries to graduating students from Ballenas and Kwalikum schools. They also sponsor at least two seminarians with their tuition and study materials. As well, they donate funds to the St. John Paul II Catholic School in Port Alberni.
