The Qualicum Beach Cafe is ushering the New Year by giving back to the community.

The popular restaurant is holding a food drive from Jan. 4-17 to help the Mount Arrowsmith Salvation Army food bank.

It’s the first time the restaurant is holding this event here in Qualicum Beach. Owner Eli Brennan said he’s been doing this in other communities where they have a restaurant. He also owns the Water Street Cafe opposite the world renowned Gastown steam clock in Vancouver.

“We want to give back as much as we can to the communities that we’re in,” Brennan said. “One of the things that I actually believe in are youth charities as well as making sure everyone is fed and happy. We’re doing this concurrently there as well as over here.”
