Remembrance Day is on Saturday, Nov. 11 and Legions in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area will commemorate the day and honour veterans, as well as remember the lives lost in war.
Below are full schedules:
QUALICUM BEACH
Candlelight Tribute Ceremony at Qualicum Beach Legion Cenotaph, 180 Veterans Way
Time: Nov. 10 at 4 p.m.
The Candlelight Tribute Service was started in 1995 in the Netherlands when Dutch children laid lighted candles on the graves of Canadian soldiers, leaving them burning overnight in silent tribute to the fallen. Since that time, these tributes have increased in Europe and here in Canada. The candles are made in the Netherlands specifically for this purpose.
The subtle glow of these candles, especially when placed in numbers, creates a solemn and unforgettable image for the evening of Remembrance.
Members of the public are welcome to purchase candles and lay them during the ceremony. Order forms are available at Branch 76, Qualicum Beach.
