Watch for a weekend of side-splitting laughter and fun coming soon to The Village Theatre in Qualicum Beach.

ECHO Youth, a youth-run program at ECHO Players, is staging their annual Spring Showcase featuring two one-act comedies with performances May 31, June 1 and June 2, according to a news release.

Bad Auditions by Bad Actors, written by Ian McWethy, gives hysterical insight into a frustrated director’s attempts to cast a community theatre production of Romeo and Juliet.

“I am so excited about the great cast and how this play is progressing. It has been a really fun experience!” said first-time director and Ballenas Secondary student Ashera Richards.

Princess Paperbag is an original pantomime, written and directed by Kwalikum Secondary student Lina Janeski.

She has created hilarious twists to create a fast-paced, action-packed play with classic pantomime humour, including audience participation.

“I’m really proud of how far the cast has come since working with them on last year’s production, Actor’s Nightmare,” said Janeski. “I’m excited for everyone to see the final product and celebrate youth involvement in community theatre.”

Both productions will have you rolling in the aisles.

This hilarious theatrical showcase, suitable for all ages, runs May 31 and June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and June 2 at 2 p.m. at The Village Theatre (110 Second Ave West).

Tickets are available at echoplayers.ca and The Village Theatre box office.

ECHO Players has been presenting live community theatre on the Village Theatre stage for nearly 50 years.

The group is made up of more than 240 dedicated members from all walks of life, with many who spend countless hours volunteering both on stage and behind the scenes each season.
