RCMP: Commemorative plaques reported stolen in Qualicum Beach

Police also deal with series of vandalism, theft incidents

Vandals and thieves kept Oceanside RCMP busy the week of Jan. 15 to Jan. 21.

During the week, police received 192 complaints.

On Jan. 18, commemorative plaques were reported stolen from their concrete bases at Beach Road and Harlech Road in Qualicum Beach.

On Jan. 16, a building was reported vandalized with graffiti in the 200 block of Hirst Avenue West in Parksville. The next day, a vehicle was reported vandalized, with a hole punched into the fuel tank and fuel missing, in the 3900 block of Island Highway West in Qualicum Beach. On Jan. 18, a school was reported vandalized. with shingles removed from roof, vents and a bench damaged in the 1300 block of Fairdowne Road in Errington.

On Jan. 20, a business compound break-and-enter was reported with a fence cut, an oxygen cylinder cage cut and a one oxygen bottle missing in the 500 block of Island Highway East in Parksville. The same day, a Honda motor, Honda generator and chart plotter were some of the items reported stolen from a boat moored at a marina in the 1000 block of Lee Road in Parksville. On Jan. 21, a residential break-end-enter was reported, with a deadbolt damaged to gain access in the 3500 block of Horne Lakes Caves Road in Qualicum Beach.

In the latest in a series of phone scams in the area, a resident reported a scam representing a relative requesting bail money on Jan. 21.
