Two former Ballenas Whalers football players Brayden Jupe and Demar Hohnstein were honoured recently.

Jupe, now a freshman quarterback of the York University Lions in the Ontario University Association Conference, was named athlete of the week for the period ending Oct. 8.

The former Ballenas standout played his best game against the Toronto Varsity Blues, despite not starting the game.

Jupe, majoring in child and youth support, went 18-for-31 for 219 yards, breaking his previous career high 104 passing yards. His two longest completions were a 29-yarder to Darren Bumstead and a 34-yard catch-and-run from Melchis Ilunga.

Former Whalers linebacker Hohnstein, who now plays for the Westshore Rebels in the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC), has been causing opposing quarterbacks nightmares all season and has earned defensive player of the week honours several times this season.

Hohnsteain’s strong defensive game has earned him a spot in the BCFC first all-star team, along with 10 of his teammates.
