Qualicum Beach Skaters launch fundraising campaign for skatepark upgrade

Art on Wheels to take place Saturday, April 6

The Qualicum Beach Skaters group has started their quest to raise funds for the Qualicum Beach Skatepark Redevelopment Project.

The group is leading the charge to revitalize the Qualicum Beach skateboarding facility to make it safer and more enjoyale for users.

The Town of Qualicum Beach has endorsed the project and has committed $1.2 million to get the work done but on the condition the QB Skaters also do their part, raising $300,000.

The group, which consists of passionate parents, skaters and community members who are avid supporters of the skateboard park, has began the campaign with the creation of an account on CanadaHelps, a online destination for donating and fundraising.

As well, QB Skaters has launched a website that highlights their objectives and rationale as well as a myriad of fundraising initiatives.

This weekend, April 6, Skull Skates & QB Skaters are hosting Arts on Wheel at 164 West Second Ave. in Qualicum Beach from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It will feature art works donated by local artists and community members, as well as members of the Youth 4 Youth Society.

A month ago, QB skaters hosted a youth night where youngsters created art on the boards with some of them to be included in the auction. All the proceeds from the art boards will go toward the skatepark project.

There will also be a thrift sale and other items for sale during the event.

On April 13, Pure Love Tattoo Flash Fundraiser will be held at 11 a.m. at No. 4 2345 Alberni Hwy in Coombs.
