12 applications received for Oceanside Recreation Services Grants

The fall intake for the Oceanside Recreation Services Grants has received 12 applications, totalling $28,700.

There are three youth applications requesting $6,500, and nine community applications requesting $19,700 that will undergo assessment by the Oceanside Recreation Services Grants Sub-Committee.

The Oceanside Recreation Services Grants Program was created in 1994 to promote recreational activities in the City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach, Electoral Areas E (Nanoose Bay), Area F (Coombs, Hilliers, Errington, Whiskey Creek, Meadowood), Area G (Englishman River, San Pareil, French Creek, Little Qualicum, Dashwood) and Area H (Bowser, Horne Lake, Deep Bay, Qualicum Bay).

The Regional District of Nanaimo has allocated a budget of $75,000 for the grants in 2022. They are usally disbursed in the spring and fall.

Last spring, the approved disbursements amounted to $36,316.09 leaving a balance of $36,183.91 that will be doled out to eligible applicants this fall. If all the fall applications are approved, there will be surplus of $9,839.91.

Those applying for grants this fall include:

Youth Grant Applications

• MAC School for the Creative Arts, $2,500 for its Youth Art Lab

• Ravensong Aquatic Club, $2,500 for equipment and rental fees

• The Old School House Arts Centre, $1,500 for photography supplies, facility rental

Community Grant Applications

• Bow Horne Bay Community, $2,500 for community engagement

• Errington War Memorial Hall Association, $1,400 for Children’s Music Program

• MAC School for the Creative Arts, $2,500 for MAC School for the Creative Arts

• Oceanside Floor Curling Club, $2,000 for Keeping Seniors Alive

• Parksville Community Centre Society, $1,800 for Game Night’s for Adults and Youth

• Parksville Indoor Slowpitch League, $2,000 for Senior and Special Olympics Tournament

• Vanisle Walking Soccer, $2,500 for tournament equipment, facility rental, food, and awards

• Ravensong Waterdancers Synchro Club, $2,500 for Aqua Go

• Shorewood San Pareil Owners and Ratepayers Association, $2,500 for Maple Lane Park Project
