Former Parksville councillor Al Greir dies

City of Parksville Council and staff are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Councillor Al Greir on March 8.

The city’s flag will be lowered to half-mast to honour and recognize his contributions to the community.

Coun. Greir was first elected to serve the City of Parksville in 2008 and elected again in 2011, 2014 and 2018, serving the city until October 2022, according to a news release by the City of Parksville.

“Al Greir had an unmistakable presence at City Hall and a smile that lit up a room. Al Greir will be deeply missed by all who knew him,” the release said.

Greir was always passionate about Parksville and championed many important causes throughout his extensive involvement in politics and will be remembered as a strong supporter of the Oceanside community.

“On behalf of City Council, I send my deepest condolences to Al’s wife, family and friends at this very difficult time,” said Mayor Doug O’Brien. “Al’s commitment, passion and determination to work for our community will be greatly missed.”
