Parksville council gave second reading to a zoning and development amendment bylaw to facilitate multi-family residential, tourist accommodation and seniors-oriented uses in an apartment type building of up to four storeys at 456 Island Highway West.

The applicant, N. Gray of MacDonald Gray Consultants, wants to change the zoning from from single-family residential to a new comprehensive development zone, according to a report to council’s July 4 regular meeting by the city’s director of community planning and building.

The preliminary concept shows a 28-unit four-storey apartment development with underground parking.

The property is located on the highway, close to Roscow Street. There is an undeveloped property to its east, a single-family home to its west and city-owned land and Mark’s Nature Park are to the south.

The area’s Official Community Plan (OCP) designation is mixed-use tourism commercial.

Council set a public hearing for Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m.
