The lights of the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre (PCTC), which have been glowing blue and yellow in support of the people of Ukraine, will change for a few weeks.

The city will make a few adjustments to building lighting between now and July 5 to recognize Pride and Canada Day, according to a news release by the City of Parksville. At this time of the year, daylight hours are much longer, the lights come on at dusk and go off with the morning light.

From June 14 to June 24, the colours will reflect Pride month and respect for inclusiveness, celebrating LGBTQ+ people’s right to live openly without shame and to show solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, according to the release. The lights will cycle through the colours of the rainbow.

The PCTC will also be lit for Canada Day from June 24 to July 4.

“As proud Canadians, we have much to be thankful for,” reads the release. “After two years, the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce will host Parksville Canada Day festivities once again with a parade along the Island Highway and entertainment, activities and the Thrifty Foods Fireworks Spectacular in the Parksville Community Park. A chance for us to come together to show appreciation for our great country.”

The building lights will return to blue and yellow on July 5, according to the city. Information about lighting of the PCTC is available from the city’s website.
