Qualicum Beach Coun. Anne Skipsey wants to look at the possibility of a seven-person town council.
During town council’s committee of the whole meeting on Nov. 24, Skipsey made a notice of motion that council look at or at least have a discussion on the issue at their next council meeting.
This will not be the first time for council to review the issue.
Earlier this year, council had the chance to consider a request by the Qualicum Beach Residents Association to increase the size of council by two, to make it a seven-person council.

At the time, council was reduced in numbers when Coun. Adam Walker resigned to become the new Parksville-Qualicum MLA. As well, Coun. Robert Filmer went on medical leave. The association was not in favour of having only three members of council making decisions for the entire town.
The plan was to ask the community if they favour of adding more members in council by including a question in the byelection ballot during the town’s byelection to replace Walker. Council did not endorse the plan.
During the 2014 municipal election, a similar attempt was made to determine if residents favour adding two more councillors (up from four). The results ended up with 3,090 voting against expansion and 1,304 in favour.
