A protest is slated for Saturday (May 7) by citizens opposed to a 160-foot cell tower planned for Qualicum Beach.

According to Carol Dowe, an area resident who launched a petition and letter-writing campaign against the tower, the protest will take place at 2045 Island Highway, across from the Christian Fellowship Church, 825 Village Way, Qualicum Beach. It will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Dowe said citizens who are opposed to this tower are appealing to the Town of Qualicum Beach and to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) to stop the installation, and are calling on all residents of Qualicum Beach to show up with family, children and friends to stand with them in protest

Residents have spent the past 20 months trying to make their voices heard, with more than 1,400 citizens opposing the cell tower through letters and petitions.
