The Town of Qualicum Beach is looking at establishing a tree and vegetation management plan.
Director of Planning, Luke Sales, presented a report by consultants Gye and Associates to the committee of the whole on Dec. 1. The consultant indicated more needs to be done based on the number of suggestions made by the environment and sustainability committee. It was recommended a half-day workshop be held involving town staff and members of the committee to explore and give some clarity on the tree and vegetation management plan issues.

Coun. Ann Skipsey agreed a workshop is a good idea.
“I’m very supportive of this,” she said.
Skipsey made a motion that council direct staff to prepare an estimation of any costs which would need to be added to the budget to start implementing the climate change adaptation plan, and the tree and vegetation management plan and bylaw.
Coun. Scott Harrison suggested council deal with the plans first before instituting a bylaw. Mayor Brien Wiese agreed.
“How do we make motions around making things go forward when we haven’t had the opportunity to have an open discussion workshop?” said Wiese.
Skipsey agreed to drop the bylaw portion of her motion, which was supported by council.
