Re: “Seniors quite capable of being informed” and “MLA speaking for those who may struggle with proportional representation.”

Clair Schuman’s letter, Aug. 7, neatly sums up what I’m feeling about the current winner-take-all electoral system and our need to drop it for one of proportional representation. Come the referendum I will be voting once again for change and against stagnation.

As an older adult with challenges I see myself as nonetheless well read, reasonably informed and engaged, resistant to apathy, and been so for most of the past four decades. I also live in one of those rural areas who’s voice MLA Michelle Stilwell claims will be diminished under the new system.

Proportional representation, in whatever form, is not complicated, cynical, nor suppressive. In fact, it’s the very opposite. It’s what democracy looks like.
