The Arrowsmith Cycling Club is excited at the prospects of getting back to racing.

With the provincial health authority lifting some of the COVID-19 restrictions, the club is preparing to open the Island Cup Series by hosting the Hammerfest XC that will take part at the Englishman River Provincial Park on March 27. Then on May 1, the club will host the Hammerfest Enduro.

The club has indicated the staging of both events cannot run without volunteers and support of sponsors.

Anyone willing to volunteer to help the club stage two the races can email admin@arrowsmithcyclingclub.com.

The cross country (XC) event is a classic style of racing where the event starts and ends at the same point. The courses and trails feature a mix of singletrack trails and smooth fire roads.

Participants at the Errington race will face a challenging climbs and exhilarating descents on a trail that is littered with roots and rocks, twists and turns.

Experts will be required to complete three gruelling laps while intermediate races will do two laps. Beginners will go around the track once.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. in the picnic shelter at the park. The expert race will start at 11 a.m. and to be followed immediately by intermediate and then beginners. The awards will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the parking area.
