Ballenas, Kwalikum gymnasts to compete at provincials

Ten high school members of Parksville’s Flipside Gymnastics will be representing North Vancouver Island at the B.C. championships next month.

The local club competed at the trials and zone championships in Comox, where 54 high school gymnasts from levels 1-5 vied for spots on the North Island team that will compete at the 2018 BC Secondary School Gymastics Championships at Moscrop Secondary in Burnaby, March 8-10.

Stephanie Palichuk, who is one of the high school team coaches at Flipside Gymnastics, said she is proud of their members, who are made up of students from both Ballenas Secondary and Kwalikum Secondary. Qualifying gymnasts will represent their respective schools at the provincial competition, though they practice together as a single club.

The results of the ten members going to the provincials are as follows:

Level 1: Maddie Siemens — vault 2nd, bars 1st, beam 8th, floor 4th, all-around 5th; Ameline Roberts — vault 4th, bars 3rd, beam 5th, floor 7th, all-around 6th

Level 2: Ariadne Greekas — vault 2nd, bars 2nd, beam 2nd, floor 2nd, all-around 1st; Tiana Way-Nee — vault 6th, bars 8th, beam 1st, floor 7th, all-around 4th; Meghan Arkwright — vault 10th , bars 5th, beam 4th, floor 2nd , all-around 6th; Ember Hayes — vault 4th , bars 7th, beam 3rd, floor 8th, all-around 7th; Nyah Dewolf — vault 3rd, beam 6th, floor 4th, all-around 8th.

Level 3: Camryn Wheldon — bars 4th , all-around 9th; Tahnee Demetrioff — floor 2nd, all-around 12th; Reanne Sterckx — vault 9th, floor 9th, all-around 15th.
