Breakers swimmers honoured at awards night

The Ravensong Breakers Aquatic Club held its year-end celebrations and awards night.

The club honoured members who have excelled throughout the year and also those swimmers, who worked hard to hone their skills.

The swimmer of the year in the different age groups are:

8-and-under Girls — Reece Swanson

8-and-under Boys — Elliot Nardi

9-10 Girls — Kenadie Sheppard

9-10 Boys — Fisher Swanson

11-12 Girls — Shery Currie

11-12 Boys — Lochlan Rogers

13-14 Girls — Raelia VanDusen

13-14 Boys — Nick Bennett

15+ Girls — Jordyn Shields

15+ Boys — Jack Confortin

The most improved award recipients were juniors Nataya VanDusen and Callum MacRae-Gardner, seniors Sarah Currie and Will MacDonald. The novice of the year award went to Bubba Paddock and Lyla Wilson while sportsmanship honors were awarded to juniors Myanah VanDusen and Benjamin Mbobela, and seniors Raelia VanDusen and Jakob Mbobela.

Meanwhile, three Breakers Jakob Mbobela, 14, Nicholas Bennett, 14, and Lochlan Rogers, 14 competed at the Swim BC Tier II Summer Championships in Victoria and the Swim BC Open Water Championships at Thetis Lake recently.

Rogers and Luke Hubner, 14, will be attending the BC Summer Games in Cowichan July 19-22. Rogers will be in swimming while Hubner will be in the triathlon.

Bennett is swimming at Canadian Swimming Trials in Edmonton, July 18-22, as a para-swimmer. Bennett has broken five Canadian records this year in his para category (S14).

Both Bennett and Jakob Mbobela will also be competing at Canadian Junior Nationals in Winnipeg July 25-30.
