Generals rack up pair of wins and 18 goals in VIJHL scoring spree

Oceanside bested top two teams in Northern Division

The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals went on a scoring spree against the top two teams in the Northern Division of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League.

The scored a total of 18 goals and they did it in front of home fans at Oceanside Place.

The Generals first beat the Comox Glacier Kings 10-2 on Friday night, (Oct. 22) and carried that momentum the next night against the top-ranked team in the VIJHL, Campbell River Storm to win 8-5.

Against the Glacier Kings, forward Greyson Weme led the Generals with three goals while Nolan Ryan scored twice. Braeden Leary, Chase Heslop, Evan Dyce, Brett Arnett and Brayden Ross each netted a goal.

Goalkeeper Aaron Kaner faced 34 shouts and allowed two to ear the win between the pipes. He has five wins, a loss and one overtime loss so far this season.

The next night, the Generals took on the only unbeaten team in the league, the Storm. Their special teams came through in a big way as they scored a total of five power-play goals. They led 3-1 in the first and scored five goals in the second. They were not able to find the back of the net again after that but their lead held on until the end as they fought off the Storm’s comeback bid.

Carson Miles had two power-play goals to pace the Generals. Other scorers were, Thomas Jacob, Arnett, Heslop, Weme, Boylan and Nolan Kehoe.

Goalie Ashton Sadauskas earned win as he turned away 27 shots for his third victory of the season.

The Generals next play a home-and-away set against the Port Alberni Bombers this week. They first travel to Port Alberni’s Alberni Valley Multiplex on Oct. 27 with puck drop at 7 p.m. and then host the Bombers the next night at 7 p.m. at Oceanside Place.
