Oceanside Generals power past Kerry Park, Campbell River in VIJHL action

Generals find top form with 2 wins at Oceanside Place

The Save-On-Foods Oceanside Generals were happy to be back in their own barn.

After going 2-3 on the road, the Generals scored two rousing wins in a row; against the Kerry Park Islanders 12-4 on Friday (Oct. 7), and Campbell River Storm 6-2 (Oct. 8) in VIJHL action in front of delighted home fans at Oceanside Place.

The Generals avenged an overtime loss they suffered against the Islanders on the road last month. Forward Carter Johnson paced the Generals with four goals and an assist as they dominated from the start, scoring seven unanaswered goals in the first period alone. The Islanders Aleko Sdrakas scored a hattrick but the Generals added five more goals to put the game out of reach.

Other scorers for the Generals were Miles Carson and Nolan Wyatt, who each had two goals. Tyler Gyori scored his first goal in the VIJHL with Brady O’Brien, Dante Paziuk and Aidan Cook each contributing a goal. Jacob Thomas had three assists while Jordan Harvey had two.

Goalie Ashton Sadauskas earned the win in goal, making 19 saves. He is 4-2 so far this season.

The next night, the Generals faced the Storm for the first time this season. Paziuk led the way with two goals and an assist. He opened the scoring that set the pace for the Generals, who ended the first period with a 3-1 lead. The added three more goals while giving up only two to get the win 6-2.

Johnson scored a goal and assisted in three of the Generals goals. Parker Klippenstein, Thomas, and Brady Van Herk each had a goal.

New goaltender Matthew Hutchinson earned his second win in a row turning away 35 of 37 shots. He earned the second star of the game.

ICE CHIPS: Johnson, the VIJHL’s top forward last season, now leads the league’s scoring list with 11 goals and 13 assists …this week the Generals will host the Lake Cowichan Kraken at Oceanside Place on Wednesay, Oct. 12 at 7:15 p.m. The next night they head to the Nanaimo Ice Centre for their first encounter against the Nanaimo Buccaneers at 7:15 p.m.
