The Oceanside Generals are on a tear.
They had another flawless weekend, winning three straight games. That makes six consecutive wins for the Generals, who are now second in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League’s North Division with 11 wins, 5 losses and one overtime loss.
They also scored a total of 17 goals in the three games they played last week, beating the Port Alberni Bombers twice 6-0 on the road (Oct. 27), and 6-2 in front of fans at Oceanside Place (Oct. 30). They made it a hat trick of wins when they sank the Nanaimo Buccaneers 5-2 at the Ice Centre (Oct. 31).
In the first game against the Bombers at the Alberni Valley Multiplex, Greyson Weme found the back of the net twice, with Carter Johnson, Evan Dyce, Miles Carson and Nolan Kehoe each scoring once. Goalie Ashton Sadauskas earned his first shutout of the season as he turned away 22 shots.
When both sides met again at Oceanside Place, the Generals grabbed a 5-0 lead entering the third period. They made it 6-0 early in the frame but gave up two goals. Johnson and Brady O’Brien each scored twice, with Kehoe and Miles contributing one apiece. Aaron Kaner earned the win between the pipes, stopping 27 shots.
Against the Buccaneers, the Generals didn’t score until the second period, tallying twice to lead 2-0. They increased their lead to 4-0 early in the final frame before the Buccaneers were able to get one past goalie Sadauskas and again in the dying seconds on a power play. Brett Arnett led the Generals with two goals with one each coming from Johnson, O’Brien and Chase Heslop.
This weekend, the Generals play a home-and-away game series against Saanich Predators. They head to George Pearkes Arena on Nov. 15 ,then host the Predators the next night at Oceanside Place at 7 p.m.
