Electoral Area F (Coombs, Hilliers, Errington, Whiskey Creek, Meadowood) director Leanne Salter has clarified a motion regarding the renaming of Errington Community Park.
On March 22, Salter provided a notice of motion that staff be directed to prepare a report on a process to rename the 100-year-old park, that would include input from schoolchildren at the Errington Elementary School and Hearthwood Homeschool.
However, at the Regional District of Nanaimo board meeting on April 12, Salter pointed out she made an error.
“When I was making my motion, I called it the Errington Park,” said Salter. “But it’s not. It’s the playground that we want to name.”

The Errington Community Park, used by the Errington Farmers Market, is currently undergoing upgrades that include the construction of a new playground.
“I got it wrong when I made that motion,” said Salter. “So that’s why we’re doing this. We’re just putting it back because we’re talking about the playground, not the entire park.”
Salter amended her motion that is specifically directed at giving the constructed playground a new name and to involve students at Errington Elementary School and Hearthwood Homeschool in the process.
The RDN board unanimously endorsed the motion.
