The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department will be holding its annual head shaving event with all proceeds to go to the Tour De Rock.
The event will take place Sept. 25 at the fire hall on 230 Hobbs Rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The DVFD has held 13 head shaving events and has donated over $50,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society.
“We have always had great support from the surrounding communities, our firefighters, other local fire departments and emergency services throughout Oceanside,” said organizer Harvey Twidale in a press release. “Supporting Tour de Rock will add a whole new element and excitement to the day.”

The two volunteer barbers of the annual fundraiser are Evelyn Schaverte and Cheryle Cook. They’ve been doing this for all 13 of the head shaving events held by the Dashwood Fire Department.
There will also be a car wash and barbecue by donation, with all funds going to the Tour De Rock. A check presentation is planned for Sept. 29 when the tour travels through their area.
Twidale said this will be the last head shave at Station 61, as it will be demolished to make way for a new state-of-the-art fire hall, which will open in 2024.
